Michigan Energy Workforce Development Consortium (MEWDC) is an industry-led partnership of more than 50 representatives of industry, workforce, education and veterans. It was established in 2008 to address current and future workforce issues that are crucial to building and sustaining Michigan’s energy industry.
Our Vision
To have the Michigan energy industry adequately staffed with a qualified and diverse workforce to provide safe and efficient energy.
Our Mission
To identify and act on current and future workforce issues that are crucial to building and sustaining Michigan’s energy industry.
Our Work
- Careers in Energy Week was established in 2013, annually providing tours and events to raise awareness to the general public, high school students, teachers and parents.
- Michigan’s 17 Career Cluster in Energy was adopted in 2016, in partnership with the Department of Education and approved by Michigan Board of Education. The Career Cluster provides students with the ability to study traditional academics while leveraging skills specific to an energy industry/career path.
- Energy Industry Fundamentals (EIF) certification hels to develop a diverse, qualified talent pipeline. More than 1,110 EIF certificates have been earned since 2014.
- Awarded more than $2 Million in competitive grants to increased the number of energy-related Registered Apprentices by over 777.
